The Biochemical Society offers a programme of grants supporting research, attendance at scientific conferences and the sponsorship of events.

You can apply for the grants and bursaries listed below via this web page.

Grants and Bursaries

Science Communication Competition An article competition for students with a flair for science communication, with the chance to have work published.

Summer Vacation Studentships  Offer funding for undergraduates to spend a summer working in a lab.  

International Sponsored Places Funding to help our members attend conferences with our international partner Societies

Eric Reid Fund for Methodology Funding available to provide modest financial support for benchwork.  

Krebs Memorial Scholarship  Provides funding during a PhD and rewards exceptional academic distinction.  

Scientific Outreach Grants Funding for innovative and engaging events or activities for school children, young scientists or the general public.  

Events Sponsorship Provides opportunities for members to apply for sponsorship (up to £500) of small events or lectures.  

Student Society Grants Available to Student Members to support the activities of a student society.  

Diversity in Science Grants For projects which support and address issues relating to diversity in science. Non-members may apply.

Student, Early Career and Full Member Bursaries  Supports the attendance of Members at Society events and courses.

Carer support grants Supports members who require additional support to attend a Society meeting or event. 

Stay Connected Bursaries Assists members who are returning to work with the costs of attending a Society meeting or event.

General Travel Grants  These can be used by members to attend a scientific meeting or visit another laboratory.

Travel Award for Skills and Knowledge Exchange Available to support research capacity building in low-income parts of the world.
